The alto saxophonist is one of the true greats of the Scottish jazz scene. He’s made hundreds and hundreds of gigs sound good, with his fabulous soaring alto cutting through as lead in Big Bands, and as the most soulful soloist in thousands of small groups. He’s at his best when he’s playing the music he loves most – the soul-jazz sound of 60’s Blue Note and Impulse records: the music of Cannonball Adderley and Stanley Turrentine. Recently, his star has been celebrated, touring in France with two leading French musicians. Their concerts were amazing. Now here they are, with Colin Steele (trumpet) and Dave Milligan (piano) playing greasy, grooving soul jazz, packed with passion and fire.
