The Edinburgh Festival
"The Edinburgh Festival is to festivals what Wimbledon is to tennis" The Stage

Edinburgh Festival is home to the largest and most comprehensive Arts and Entertainment Festival in the world. It is an Olympic scale event staged every year and is made up of a number of different festivals, each with their own structure.

  • The Edinburgh International Festival
  • The Edinburgh Festival Fringe
  • The Edinburgh Book Festival
  • The Edinburgh Military Tattoo
  • The Edinburgh Film Festival

Assembly is a major part of The Fringe which is now, by far, the largest part of all the Festivals and has become the greatest showcase in the world for live work. It began as a spontaneous addition to the first Edinburgh International Festival in 1947, a kind of polite protest by the more adventurous elements of the arts against what they saw as "the Establishment" and has grown to the point where it now takes over more than a hundred venues in the city and plays to an audience of more than a million people.

The Fringe Society
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is co-ordinated by the Fringe Society. The society does not run venues or promote shows as it is a charitable entity. The primary functions of the Fringe Society are to:

Provide advice and information about all aspects of appearing as a company at the Fringe. Attracts groups to Edinburgh and provide them with marketing and a central box office. Publicises all events on at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with a central website, Fringe programme and Daily Diary.

The Festival Fringe Society produces booklets which provide helpful information about all aspects of bringing a show to the Fringe. Either visit their website www.edfringe.com for more information contact:
